Richard R. Millette

1925 - 2104 SHEFFIELD Richard Robert Millette, 88, formerly of Sheffield, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Fairview Commons, where he had resided since March 2013. Also known as Dick or Butch, Richard was born in Holyoke on Sep. 13, 1925, son of Ernest and Oleda Millette. He attended schools in Holyoke. A long-time resident of Chicopee, Richard moved to Sheffield in the early 1990's. Mr. Millette served briefly in the Marines in 1943, then worked for over forty years as a truck driver, most of which for Hemingway Trucking of Connecticut. During his retirement, Richard also worked in the maintenance department at United Engineers in Holyoke. While in Chicopee, Richard and his late wife, Blanche, were members of Chic-Mates, a square dance club. Richard was an avid camper, spending many years at Lake Sherman in Brimfield, and later, at Camp Overflow in Otis, where he enjoyed boating and fishing. He enjoyed golfing, candlepin bowling, and was a die-hard Boston Celtics fan. He also enjoyed socializing with people, especially his daily visits at the Sunrise Diner and Village on the Green Restaurant in Sheffield. Richard leaves behind a daughter, Pamela Krol of Sheffield; two sons, Richard R. Millette Jr. of Sheffield, and Michael E. Millette of Belchertown; a sister, Esther St. Pierre of Chicopee; seven grand-children, Joseph Krol of Georgetown, Mass., Robert R. Krol of Trafford, Penn., Kathleen Krol of Sheffield, Nicole Millette of Chicopee, Kimberly Herzog of Palmdale, Calif., and Meghan and Mathew Millette of Belchertown, and five great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Lyla Krol, Jared Krol, and Dylan and Holden Herzog. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Blanche, who passed away in March, 2001. The couple was married on June 16, 1945. He was also predeceased by his son, David Millette in 1999. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Teague, pastor. Burial will follow at Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington.
