Rita Bernadette Cavey LaVigne

1920-2012

NORTH ADAMS Mrs. Rita Bernadette Cavey LaVigne, 91 of 96 Cherry Street North Adams, died on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Springside of Pittsfield.

She was born on December 18, 1920, in North Adams, daughter of the late Alexander and Constance (Matte) Cavey. Her family moved to North Pownal, Vt., where she attended school there and then attended Williamstown High School.

Mrs. LaVigne began her employment at the Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates, the Pownal Tannery and Powell's General Store in Pownal. She became a homemaker until she raised her family and then worked at local department stores until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Francis Church in North Adams participating in the Rosary Society and Jollee Circle. She was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion Auxiliary, the Clarksburg Senior Citizens and the Mary G. Spitzer Senior Center.

Mrs. LaVigne was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Joseph LaVigne, whom she married on April 29, 1950 in Bennington, Vt. He died February 3, 2007.

Mrs. LaVigne is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann Kane of Seattle, Wash., and Jean Marie LaVigne of North Adams and a son, John Charles LaVigne and his wife, Jane of Winchester, Mass. She also leaves three grandchildren, Janelle, Juliette and Jessica LaVigne as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her son, Paul F. LaVigne died April 22, 1993. She is also predeceased by four sisters, Eva LaBonte, Julia Duquette, Rose Bisson and Anna Hatch, as well as four brothers, Arthur, Albert, Ernest and Raymond Cavey.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral service for Rita LaVigne will be held on, Saturday December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
