Rita Mae Paradis 1929 - 2012 LENOX Rita Mae Paradis, 82, formerly of 405 Pittsfield Road, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Great Barrington Rehabilitation Center where she had resided the past seven months. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 29, 1929, the daughter of Walter and Margaret Horrigan Stockley, she was educated in Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Paradis had been employed by Eaton Paper Company and for the Pittsfield Public Schools cafeterias for five years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Christian Assembly Church in Pittsfield. She enjoyed ceramics, playing bingo, cows, and going to Rhode Island. Her husband, Joseph E. Paradis, whom she married Dec. 17, 1983, in Pittsfield, died Dec. 1, 2009. Mrs. Paradis is survived by three sons, Michael W. Groat and his wife, Sheila, of Pittsfield, Walter J. Groat and his wife, Tina, of Pittsfield, and Mark A. Groat and his wife, Robin, of New Ashford; three stepdaughters, Susan Andreski and her husband, Raymond, of Holiday, Fla., Laurie J. Simon and her husband, Keith, of North Adams, and Karen P. Jolin and her husband, Gary, of Williamstown; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Clifford J. Groat, who died in 1987, and three brothers, Walter, James, and Robert Stockley. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Rita Mae Paradis will be Thursday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m,. at DERY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. David McIntosh, pastor of Christian Assembly Church, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Paradis may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
