Robert J. Blake

1927 - 2014 DALTON Robert J. Blake, 86, of Pioneer Street, died on Jan. 11, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on May 5, 1927, in Pittsfield, the son of Ralph and Ethel Ingrham Blake. He was educated in Dalton Schools. He served in the US Army, being stationed in Germany from 1952 to 1960. He retired from Crane & Company in May of 1990, after 42 years of service. He loved watching wrestling and listening to country music. His family members would all play music together, playing his favorite song "New River Train." Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. Robert was predeceased by his wife, the former Viola Sheltra Blake, who died in 2007, and by two brothers, Howard Blake Sr. in 2001 and Donald Blake. He leaves his daughter, Nancy Giardina, and her husband, Thomas of Pittsfield; a son, Steven, Blake of Haverhill; his companion Audra Love; six grandchildren, Kellie Barnes of North Adams, Matthew Giardina, Sarah Giardina and Elisa Giardina, all of Pittsfield, and Melissa and Lyndsey Blake of Norman, Okla.; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Barnes and Christopher Bostwick of North Adams, Anthony Giardina, David Giblin IV, Sean, Kylie and Cody Soper, all of Pittsfield, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Robert J. Blake will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Janet McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. There will be an hour of visitation on the day of the funeral, starting at 9:30 a.m. and continuing until the start of the service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Baystate Medical Center ICU, in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
