1928 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Robert "Fitzy" James Fitzsimmons, 87, of 629 West Street died on May 5, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born on February 15, 1928 the son of Edward and Ethel Van Duesen Fitzsimmons, he was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph High and attended St. Michaels College before enlisting in the service. Mr. Fitzsimmons was a US Army Veteran, serving in Japan from 1946-1948. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 48 years as an appraiser. 'Fitzy' was very involved in the community; working at the Catholic Youth Center for many years as well volunteering for the West Little League program and the St. Joseph's soup kitchen. He was a loving husband to Jean McMahon Fitzsimmons, the love of his life. A devoted father to his three children; James Michael Fitzsimmons and his wife, Tammy of Pittsfield, Daniel Edward Fitzsimmons and his wife, Sharon of Glen Allen Virginia his daughter, Mary Eileen DePari and her husband, Ralph of North Andover. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Erin, Molly and Makenzi Fitzsimmons, Collin, Brian, Cory, Garrett and Maggie Fitzsimmons and Sam and Andy DePari, three great-grandchildren; CJ, Junior and Madison. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward of Concord and Sister Mary of Dalton. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and most of all his wonderful sense of humor, he will be sadly missed. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Robert "Fitzy" Fitzsimmons will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 8 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Church celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor. Entombment will follow in the St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, May 8, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Catholic Youth Center or to St. Mark's Church, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in his memory.
