1930 - 2017 Obituary Condolences Flowers

PITTSFIELD - Robert Henry Kornn, 86, of Berkshiretown Apartments passed away in his sleep at Hillcrest Commons on January 11, 2017.

Born February 28, 1930 in North Adams the son of Henry and Jane B. Kateley Kornn, he attended schools in Williamstown and North Adams. At age 12 he moved to Lee where he attended Lee Schools.

He was employed at High Lawn Farm in Lee and then at Green Meades Farm in Richmond, before becoming an employee of Berkshire Gas where he worked for 38 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was very active with volunteering and in 2000 was named Volunteer of the Year by the RSVP Program in Pittsfield.

He was the faith of Protestant religion at the First United Methodist Church and was active on many committees there.

Bob's favorite pastime was building puzzles with his friends at Berkshiretown and the Ralph Froio Senior Center.

He was an avid hiker and backpacker on the Appalachian Trail for many years, continuing his hikes from his stopping point the previous year. He also enjoyed collecting steins and stamps. Bob served in the National Guard for 4 years.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years the former Barbara G. Turner whom he married September 27, 1952, two daughters Linda Horomanski of California, Susan Koldys of Pittsfield, two grandchildren Stacy Horormanski of Pittsfield and Joseph Koldys of Pittsfield, sister Nancy Gyuarasz of Florida, brother Walter Kateley of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter JoAnn E. Kornn, his twin brother Richard and brothers Elmer Kornn, Jack, Lawson and William Kateley and sister Jessie Brown.

Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Commons for taking care of him for the past three months.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14 at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield on Fenn Street, with Rev. Stephanie Filiault, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7PM at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
