1934 - 2016 PITTSFIELD- Robert James "Bob" Hall died October 15, 2016 at Berkshire Place. He was born May 31, 1934 in Schenectady, NY to Gaylord James and Dora Hearn Hall, Bob attended local schools. He went on to Union College from which he earned his B.A. in 1956. He then went on to the University of Pennsylvania from which earned an M.A. in American History in 1957. From 1957 to 1959 he served in the US ARMY. In 1960 he began his teaching career. This led him 1962 to the Pittsfield Public Schools where he taught a variety of subjects: German, English, history, Spanish, Latin and ESL. During that time, he also earned an M.A. in German from Middlebury College (Deutsche Sommerschiele) Though formally retired, Bob continued to teach as part of Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County. He was a reader for the Berkshire Talking Chronicle. His hope in all of this was that he be (in his grandmother's words) "useful as well as decorative". His survivors include three cousins: Sue Alibozek of Scotia, NY, Marlene Caldwell of Gulfport, FL and June Partch of Rexford, NY. FUNERAL NOTICE- Arrangements by WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Per Bob's wishes there are no calling hours or services. Burial will be in the Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201, the Berkshire Immigrant Center, 88 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 or Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County, 1 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
