Robert E. Hoffman

1944 - 2016 Robert Edward (Bob) Hoffman, 71, of Lenox, MA, passed away following a long illness on June 26, 2016. He was born in Easton, PA, the son of John and Margaret Hoffman. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with both a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Bob started his career at General Electric. Subsequently he became President of Comband Technologies, Inc. of Chesapeake, VA, and held executive positions at C-Cor Electronics, Inc., Cincinnati Microwave, Inc., and MagnaVision Corporation. He went on to combine his business experience with his engineering background to serve as an arbitrator/ mediator in the telecommunications field. Bob was an adventurous man and enjoyed traveling, his work taking him to both Southeast Asia and the Middle East. A longtime resident of Virginia, Bob returned to the Berkshires after his retirement, where he enjoyed hiking and RPI hockey games. Bob was a gifted engineer and loved to build things. He took up woodworking in his later years and had a talent for building furniture as well as restoring older pieces. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Hoffman; two children, Brian Hoffman and Hilary Hoffman; his former wife, Sue Loughlin Hoffman; a brother, John Hoffman; and a sister, Marcia Snowden. He also leaves behind one grandson, a niece and a nephew. He is predeceased by his father, John Hoffman. The regularly scheduled 11:15 Sunday Mass at St. Ann's Church in Lenox on July 17, 2016, will also be designated as a remembrance to Bob's life. Memorial contributions may be made to the RPI Alumni Fund or the Adirondack Mountain Club, both in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
