Robert Shindler Obituary
Robert "Bob" Shindler

PITTSFIELD- Robert "Bob" Shindler passed away at Berkshire Medical Center on Jan. 25, 2015 after a short illness. He was 89 and was the son of William and Rachel Shindler. Bob will be known for many things, for the volunteering at many Berkshire County and Pittsfield organizations, most often with his wife, Elaine, with whom he recently had their 66th anniversary. Perhaps most prevalent in the peoples' minds who knew Bob was his love of and concern for all manner of veterans matters, including the Jewish War Veterans of which he was the local commander and the American Legion where he was a very long time member, 70 years, practically from the day he was discharged from the United States Army following service in Europe during World War II. For all of his veteran's work, Bob was honored by Veterans' Services as Veteran of the Year for Pittsfield in 2004, a feat commemorated in stone at Memorial Park, adjacent to Knesset Israel Synagogue where he was a long time member and along with his brother-in-law, Eddie Skoletsky, served faithfully on the Knesset Israel Cemetery Committee. Many will also remember Bob for the Press Box Restaurant on Eagle Street which he ran with his uncle, Hy Shindler after the war. Bob leaves his wife, Elaine Shindler, son, Marty, daughter, Lori Fish and four grandchildren.
