Robert W. Stark

1955-2013 WEST STOCKBRIDGE Robert W. "Bobby" Stark, 58, son of the late Harold A. and Meta L. (Maher) Stark, died suddenly on Aug. 9, 2013, at his home. He had been in failing health recently. Born on Kindley Air Force Base, Bermuda, July 8, 1955, he attended school on the Air Force Base and lived in the town of St. George's until the family moved to West Stockbridge in 1963. He was a graduate of the Village School in West Stockbridge, the "new" Searles Middle School and Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1973. He lived with his family in Windsor for several years but had spent most of his life in West Stockbridge. Bobby worked as a local carpenter and contractor for many years, from which he developed disabling medical problems more recently. Bobby was very proud of his son, Rory, who has made his career in demolition work in the Air Force and served a number of tours of duty in the Middle East, including Iraq and Afghanistan. He was also very proud of his grandchildren. Bobby loved to be outdoors with his beloved dogs (hunting, fishing, boating, camping, etc.). He was a huge science fiction fan (books and movies), and he loved collectables such as antique bottles. He exhibited a great deal of practical knowledge about things. He was a stand-up guy with no airs; he was who he seemed to be. He was always generous and thoughtful with his friends. His word was rock-solid, and he was someone who could be counted on to help when asked. With other family members living far away, he cared for his mother until her death in 2011. In addition to his son, Master Sergeant Rory M. Stark and his wife Jennifer of Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, N.M., Bobby is survived by three granddaughters, Skyla, Baeleigh and Reighley Stark; and three step-grandchildren, Alex, Kaylee and Nicholas Baker, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Charles and Sally Stark of Bossier City, La., Ken and Charlene Stark of Brevard, N.C., and Albert and Tori Stark of Julian, Calif.; two sisters, Lenore and Edward Clark of North Berwick, Maine, and Rev. Marj Stark and Douglas Spanks of Ipswich, Mass.; ten nephews and nieces; his good friend, John Schweizer of Barrington, Ill., and his former wife, Jennifer Stark of Peru, Mass. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of Bobby's life will be held on Saturday, September 21. Friends are invited to gather at the Brick House Pub, 425 Park Street, Housatonic, by 2 p.m. for travel to a private outdoor location for the celebration (bring lawn chairs). A reception at the Brick House Pub will follow. There will be no visiting hours. If you plan to attend, please respond to his sister, Marj Stark, 978-356-5169 (leave message), or email: revstarkers@juno.com.
