Rose A. Norton

1927 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Rose A. Norton, 85, of Whipple Street, passed away Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born July 6, 1927, in Berlin, N.Y., daughter of Louis and Louise Floyd Miller, she attended Pittsfield and North Adams public schools. She was employed for many years at the former Crestwood Nursing Home in Lenox. Rose was always willing to take in people who needed a helping hand when they were at their lowest. Rose loved crocheting; she made hats for premature babies, which were used by many babies at BayState Medical Center, and she also supplied many handmade afghans to nursing homes in the area and was often referred to as the "blanket lady" by families of residents who received one of her afghans. She also enjoyed doing word searches and puzzle books, and above all else she really enjoyed helping people who needed help.

She married Ernest W. Norton Sr. on March 9, 1946; he passed away Nov. 19, 1973.

Rose leaves her children, Louise Lacy and her husband, Michael, of Pittsfield, Ernest W. Norton Jr. of Pittsfield, Rose M. Maston and her husband, Bob Sr., of Pittsfield, Bonnie S. Hayden of Pittsfield; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a sister, Grace Williams of North Adams.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Daniel, John, and Joseph Miller.
