Rosemary Gerrard Komar

1922-2014 ELIZABETH, N.J. Rosemary Gerrard Komar, 91, formerly of Dalton and Pittsfield, died at a hospice in Elizabeth, N.J. on February 15, 2014. Born in New York City's Harlem on Sept. 2, 1922, daughter of Harold and Charlotte Stager Gerrard, Mrs. Komar moved to the city's borough of Queens with her family when she was two years old. She attended John Adams High School and lived in Queens until 1987, when she and her husband Alexis retired and moved to Dalton with their son, Anthony. After her husband's death she moved to Pittsfield, then to New Jersey. Before retiring, Mrs. Komar was the owner and proprietor of Rosemary's Ceramics, where she taught and sold hobby ceramics. She enjoyed traveling and saw much of the world, including favorites Hawaii, Egypt, China, Japan, Portugal, Greece and Venezuela. She married Mr. Komar, whom she met at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, in Queens on June 8, 1941. He died in Dalton on Oct. 16, 1997. Mrs. Komar was also predeceased by her brothers Harold and Robert and her sister Charlotte. She leaves her son Anthony, of Stockbridge; three daughters, Jeanine Daly and her husband William of Cary, Ill.; Sharon LaVerda of Dalton; and Charlene Komar Storey and her husband Gregory of Roselle Park, N.J.; six grandchildren: Karen Gowdy, David LaVerda, Kerri Kemp, Gina Girard, Tiffany Belanger and Christine Antonelli; and nine great-grandchildren: Oliver Antonelli; Jacob Belanger; Jessica, Kelsey and Christian Ellsworth; Elena and Mariana Gowdy; and Alexis and Elizabeth Kemp. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 8:00 A.M. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, Ma. 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. at St. Agnes Church with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker C.S.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton, Ma. Calling Hours at the funeral home will be Friday, February 21, from 4-7 P.M.
