Ruth Bonvillain

1915-2014 NEW MARLBOROUGH Ruth Bonvillain died peacefully at home in New Marlborough on February 3, 2014 at the age of 99. She was born January 1, 1915 in New York City. She was educated at Hunter College of the City University of New York and received a Masters in Social Work from Northwestern University. Ruth worked for the Jewish Family Service as a therapist, supervisor, and assistant director of the Brooklyn borough office in New York City for many years. In 1970, she went into private practice and worked until she was 92. She had a second home in New Marlborough since 1985 and moved here permanently in 2007 to live with her daughter Nancy. From her teenage years until her 90s, Ruth was an active participant in movements for social justice and civil rights and against war and militarism. She never wavered in her personal, political, and social principles. Ruth is survived by her son, Thomas; daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Joseph and Amy; and three great-grandchildren.
