PITTSFIELD Ruth "Ruthie" L. Eulian, 89, died on November 21, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center due to congestive heart failure.She was born on February 15, 1923, in Pittsfield, daughter of the late Francis "Frank" H. Longstaff and Ida L. Fairbanks Longstaff. Ruthie was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
After high school, she was employed as a wage-rate clerk in the Regulator Department at General Electric for seven years and enjoyed bowling in the G.E. Bowling League at the New Jefferson Bowling Alley.
On February 7, 1948, she married James E. Eulian. After marriage she was primarily a homemaker.
Ruthie continued candlepin bowling and was very good at different kinds of needlework including knitting, crocheting, crewel embroidery, needlepoint, and cross stitch.
She was a communicant of St. Martin's Episcopal Church and a member of the Women's Guild for over 33 years.
Ruth is survived by her children, Francis J. (Marina) Eulian of Pittsfield, Elaine R. (Gary) Russell of Cheshire, and Janet M. Haskins of Dalton. She also leaves her grandchildren, Lynn, Becky, Joseph, Michelle, Stephanie, Marc, Brendan, Corey, Kerry, and Caitlin, as well as many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen M. Torrey; her sisters-in-law, Florence Longstaff and Peggy Cadorette; her close cousins, Carl Maak and Donald Bain; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite niece, Barbara Contenta.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, James, who died in 1997, and her brother, Harold F. Longstaff, who died in 1998.
Her family is especially grateful for the care given to Ruth by her team of doctors, as well as the Berkshire Visiting Nurses.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Ruth L. Eulian will be held Monday, November 26, from 10 to 11 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. A graveside service will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery with Rev. Angela Buchauer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Eulian may be made to Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
