Ruth Hayden

1930 - 2013 LEE Ruth (Hitchcock) Hayden, 82, of Lee, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.

Ruth was born in Pittsfield on Aug. 25, 1930, to Theron and Laura Becker Hitchcock. She was educated in the Lee school systems and graduated from Lee High School in 1947. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Henry Bishop Memorial Nursing School in 1951.

Her career as a registered nurse included years of service at Berkshire Medical Center, St Luke's Hospital, and Edgecombe NursingHome.

Ruth lived in Lee all of her life. She was a great wife and hard working and generous mother of six. She sang in the Choir at St Mary's Church in Lee. In her retirement, she loved spending time with her husband, grandchildren, family and friends.

Mrs. Hayden was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward "Neil" Hayden of 56 years, whom she married Jan. 24, 1953. He died July 22, 2009.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hayden O'Brien; sons, Peter and his wife, Heather of Concord, N.H., Michael and his wife, Eileen, of Easton, Pa., Stephen and his wife, Pamela ,of Lee, Scott and his wife, Annemarie, of Richmond, Vt., and Christopher and his wife, Michelle of Lee; her sister, Dorothy Bleivik, of Lee; brother, Richard Hitchcock, and his wife, Carolyn, of Lee, and grandchildren, Timothy and Meghan O'Brien, Caitlin and Cameron Hayden, Annie and Thomas Hayden, Morgan and Brenden Hayden and Samuel and Jack Hayden.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Gary O'Brien; by her sisters, Barbara Holden, Jane DeFreest, and Carol Savery, and by brother, Ted Hitchcock.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Ruth Hayden will be held Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ruth Hayden may be made to the Lee Fire Company in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main Street , Lee, MA 01238.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Mount Greylock for their patients and exceptional care during her stay there.
