1922-2012 Ruth Mary Frances Morrissey 90, formerly of 137 Higgins Dr. Williamstown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at Williamstown Commons.
She was born in North Adams on January 23, 1922 a daughter of the late Joseph and Delia (Pero) Cote. She graduated from the former St. Joseph High School with the class of 1939.
She was employed for many years at the Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. Ruth was an avid skier, skater, swimmer and seamstress and was young at heart. She was a loyal communicant of St's Patrick and Raphael Parish in Williamstown. She was a member of the North Adams Emblem Club and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor which was enjoyed by her family all who knew her.
She was deeply religious. Ruth had an excellent skill in crossword puzzles, jumble and scrabble. She was best known for her family gatherings that included her award winning apple pie. She enjoyed sharing her tea pot collection with all who entered her cozy home. She was a wonderful mother to all her children, a fantastic aunt to all her nieces and nephews who loved and adored her and the grandmother a child could dream about and great grandmother who could change a child's frown into a smile. Her loving daughter and her son-in-law Ernie were blessed to be her constant companions and caregivers through her latter years with the help of Jane Oles who treated Ruth like her own mother and Maureen Pedercini a niece who loved Ruth like a mother.
Survivors include her children Michael Owen Morrissey and his wife Sandra of North Adams, Owen Joseph Morrissey and his wife Christina of New York City. Judith Morrissey Bombardier and her husband Ernest of Williamstown and Dr. Mary Ellen Morrissey PhD of Swampscott, Mass. Five grandchildren Lori Morrissey, Michael P. Morrissey, Eamon Stimson, Reed Morrissey and Christian Morrissey. Three great grandchildren Emily Howe, Colleen Howe and Nevyn Olivia Morrissey.
She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers Dorothy Skorupski, John and William O'Brien.
Ruth's family would like to thank the staff at Williamstown Commons for the love and care that they provided to their mother.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. at St.'s Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams are Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Donations are suggested for the Williamstown Food Pantry through the funeral home.
