Saverio L. "Sam" Scarfone
1922-2012 NORTH ADAMS Mr. Saverio L. "Sam" Scarfone, 89, of 484 Barbour St., died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his home.
He was born in North Adams, Mass. on December 14, 1922, son of Rosario and Rose (Critelli) Scarfone. He graduated from Drury High School and also attended Northeastern University.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Sam was the owner and operator of Moderne Studio Photography for 47 years until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Sam enjoyed exercise and was a member of the Northern Berkshire YMCA. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, the former Grace L. O'Neil, whom he married on June 5, 1948; two daughters, Deborah A. McGowan of Centerport, N.Y. and Lisa M. Scarfone of Springfield, Mass.; three sons, Bryan Scarfone of Greenwich, Conn., Allen Scarfone of Glastonbury, Conn.; and Gary Scarfone of North Adams; six grandchildren, Bryce, Kris, Drew, Laura, Corey, and Holly. He also leaves one brother, Leonard Scarfone, of Las Vegas; one sister, Margaret Burdick of Pittsfield; and nieces and nephews.
A sister, Mary Palmer, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The Funeral for Sam Scarfone will be Monday November 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services Meals on Wheels Program or the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
