Shirley Clark Obituary
Shirley H. Clark

1928 - 2015 LENOX - Shirley H. Clark passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Centre after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born August 11, 1928 in Madison, WI, she was the daughter of Erwin and Eleanor Hornburg. Shirley attended schools in Wisconsin and was a Phi Kappa Phi graduate from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. After graduation, Shirley moved to Rochester, NY to commence her career as a dietician where she met her first husband, Lewis H. Mahony, to whom she was married for 36 years. On moving to the Berkshires in 1966, her career as a dietician took her in the direction of using her skills for the benefit of the elderly. She was the Consulting Dietician in up to seven different Nursing Homes during her working life and like everything she did in life, she had a passion and pioneering approach to provide a home style food and nutrition philosophy, to a Nursing Home environment. On May 7, 1988, Shirley entered a new phase of her life when she married Llewellyn (Lew) Clark. Together they began to wind down their working lives and started to enjoy their time together managing their time between the Berkshires, Maine and numerous trips to domestic and exotic destinations. Shirley was a caring, outgoing and gregarious person who had a zest for life. She lived life fully and engaged in many different hobbies. She loved to play tennis, travel, ski, dance, sing, hold parties, sail and socialize with people from all walks of life. She also had a love for all flora and fauna, which engaged her even during the inevitable transition she went through with Alzheimer's. Whether at her home in the Berkshires or at the Maine summer home, Shirley loved her entire family and wanted nothing more than the gift of time to spend with all her children, her grandchildren and their children as often as possible. Shirley is survived by her husband, Lew Clark, with whom she celebrated 27 years of marriage just before her passing, her daughter, Jill L. Mahony and her partner, Nicola Bell of London, England, her son, Craig E. Mahony and his wife, Marge Mahony of Pittsfield. She is also survived by her stepchildren; Charles and Anne Clark, Susan and Jack Henderson, Rick Dennison and John and Missy Clark. She had 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her stepdaughter, Deborah Clark Dennison. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and respect for staff in all roles involved with supporting the Kimball Farms Life Enrichment Program (LEP) and the dedicated extremely caring staff throughout the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday May 15, 2015 at First Congregational Church of Dalton, 514 Main St, Dalton, MA 01226. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, 40 Sunset Avenue, Lenox, MA 01240, for the attention of Kelly Sullivan. All donations will be shared between the Sedgewick Unit on Sunset Avenue and the LEP Unit on Walker Street.
