PLYMOUTH, MASS. - Sophie Jadwiga Wojtkowski Borkowski, formerly of Pittsfield, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at her home in Plymouth. She was 91.
Born on October 24, 1920, in Pittsfield, she was the daughter and one of 13 children of Frank and Anna Yuhaski Wojtkowski of Pittsfield. She was educated in the Pittsfield Public Schools, graduating from Pittfield High School in 1938. After having her children, she worked for many years at Pittsfield General Hospital and then at Berkshire Medical Center as a surgical nurse, and also did private duty as a nurse. After moving to Plymouth, she worked for Chatholic Charities for 22 years until she was 89 and also worked as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the TAPS, the Bonnie Seniors and the Wareham CB Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, William G. Borkowski; a son, William G. Borkowski Jr., and a daughter, Danielle "Nanny" Borkowski Boliski. She was also predeceased by three of her siblings, her sister Irene G. "Batesy" Wojtkowski Nuciforo and brothers, Frank A. and Stanley B. Wojtkowski.
She is survived by her sons, Charles of Plymouth and Gary of New York; her daughter, Sharon Borkowski Skowron of Connecticut; her grandson Stephen of Providence R.I. whom she and her husband adopted and brought up; her granddaughter Samantha; and two great-grandchildren, Elora and Michael. She is also survived by nine siblings, five brothers, Attorney and former State Representative Thomas C. (Anne Everest) Wojtkowski of Pittsfield, Edmund H. (Dorothy Wojcik) Wojtkowski of Palmetto, Fla., George W. Wojtkowski of Pittsfield, Zigmund N. Wojtkowski of Pittsfield and Conrad R. (Frances Clement) Wojtkowski of Pittsfield; and four sisters, Ann A Talis of Hillsdale, MI, Wanda H. Donahue of Gulfport, Fla., Theresa A. Jordan of Stewart, Fla. and Stephanie A. (Bruce) Bonnivier of San Antonio, Fla.
