1918 - 2014 SPRINGFIELD Sister Maria Edward Farr, (Letitia), 96, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke, on Monday, Nov. 10. A native of Pittsfield,she was the daughter of Edward and Ann (Gavin) Farr. Sister Maria Edward entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1937 from St. Charles Parish, Pittsfield. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Pittsfield. She earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. Sister Maria Edward taught in the schools of the Diocese of Springfield in Holy Family, Our Lady of Hope, and Cathedral High School, Springfield; Blessed Sacrament, Greenfield; St. Mary, Northampton; St. Agnes, Dalton; Catholic Central Elementary and St. Mark, Pittsfield; in the Diocese of Worcester in St. Louis, Webster; Sacred Heart, Gardner and St. Stephen, Worcester. She also served as librarian at St. Mary, Longmeadow and in Developmental Reading at Holy Cross, Springfield and on the staff of the Bureau for Exceptional Children, Pittsfield. In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her nieces, Kathleen Garret-Farr of Fla., Maureen Petruzelli of Cheshire, and Carol Farr of Ind.; and by her sister-in-law, Ann Farr of Lenox. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and John Farr. FUNERAL NOTICE: The wake will take place at Mont Marie on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 3 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in the Mont Marie Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Arrangements entrusted to the SAMPSON FAMILY CHAPELS, Springfield.
