Stanislaus "Lolly" Smith

1919-2013 Stanislaus "Lolly" Smith, 94, of Lenox passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Born on February 16, 1919 to the late Anthony and Josephine Smith; Lolly came from a family of eight girls and four boys. She was known as the family activities director. Lolly spent countless hours sharing her enjoyment of nature, swimming, hiking, skiing, fishing, and more with her many nieces and nephews.

She was there, lending moral support for her large circle of friends and family in the good times and the bad. She could often be heard quoting Marg Downs"Love Many, Trust Fewand Always Paddle your Own Canoe."

Lolly graduated from Lenox Memorial High School in 1937 and from there began her studies at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her nursing degree in 1943.

Ms. Smith joined the United States Navy and served from 1951-1958, where she was proud to hold the title of Lieutenant Commander. She served as a nurse in WWII and in the Korean Conflict.

After her military service, Lolly worked as a nurse in many different places, she last worked as a staff nurse at Hillcrest Hospital until her retirement.

After retiring, Lolly spent many hours delivering goodies created by her sister Babe to many old friends and family. She felt blessed that she could always find in her faith, family, and friends. She will be missed by so many who have great memories of a good woman.

Lolly is survived by many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral of Ms. Stanislaus J. "Lolly" Smith of Lenox will be Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10 am from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Ann Church celebrated by the Fr. Christopher J. Waitekus, Pastor. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ms. Smith's memory may be made to St. Ann's Church or Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
