Obituary Condolences

Stanley Phillips 1923 - 2012 HOLYOKE On Feb. 25, 2012, Stanley Phillips died peacefully in Holyoke at the age of 88, after a long life of painting and singing. Daughters Claudia and Raya were at his bedside. Born Aug. 13, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, he spent his childhood and early adult years in New York. After marrying and having five children, he moved to N. Egremont, in order to create artwork full-time. He loved nature, music, and gardening, and was an accomplished carpenter. In 2010, Stanley moved to the Soldier's Home in Holyoke, where he brought joy to many people by being the resident portrait painter and corridor crooner. There is hardly a resident or employee at the Soldier's Home who has not been painted by or sung to by Stanley. Stanley is survived by his four daughters (Menoukha, Claudia, Ditte and Raya), five grandchildren (Sara, Mara, Ian, Jacob and Isaac), four great-grandchildren (Dahlia, Forest, Matan and Eber), former wife (Harriet), and many fond friends. His son, Eugene died in 2004. His gentle nature and unconditional love at the end of his life will be sorely missed. We wish to thank the Soldier's Home and the Holyoke VNA Hospice program, for taking such good care of our father. If you wish to participate in a memorial gathering in April, please email raya_ariella@yahoo.com.
