Stanley H. Wilk 1922 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Stanley H. Wilk, 89, died Saturday at Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. Born in Alma, Wisc., on May 15, 1922, son of Helmuth and Christina Wilk, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and memberships in two honorary fraternities. He joined the Navy in World War II as an Ensign and served in two navy yards and became Engineering Officer aboard a ship. Prior to joining the Navy he worked on the Manhattan Project in New York City. During his 42 years at General Electric Co., he was mechanical development engineer for Large Power Transformers. He wrote the specifications for a 500-ton rail car and followed the construction and introduction to the railroads and was the recipient of nine GE patent awards. He retired in 1984 and had been active at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on the council, evangelism, property and ushering committees. He was a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, and enjoyed golf and bridge. He was a member of the GEAA and G.E. Quarter Century and the Pensioners Club. Mr. Wilk is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Yost, whom he married Sept. 10, 1950, in Stroudsburg, PA, a daughter, Susan C. Ramsey and her husband, Dennis, of Chesapeake, VA, a son, Lee S. Wilk of Baltimore, MD, a sister, Betty Jane Senty of Winona, MN. He was predeceased by a brother, Warner Wilk, who resided in Winona, MN. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Stanley H. Wilk will be held Wednesday, March 7, at 11 AM at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy Wiseman, pastor, officiating. There will be an hour of visitation on the day of the service starting at 10 AM and ending at 11 AM when the service will start. Private burial will be in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Stanley's memory may be made to Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
