Stuart K. Sprague

1923 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS Stuart Kenneth Sprague, 89, of 227 Franklin St., died Thursday April 11, 2013 at North Adams Commons.

He was born in Wardsboro, Vt., on Oct. 18, 1923, son of Lafayette H. and Edith (Wilder) Sprague. He attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1941.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Stuart was employed by Morrison Berkshire Machine Co. and before that the James Hunter Machine Co. for 45 years until his retirement.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Stuart was a member of the Post #125 American Legion in North Adams and enjoyed reading and cross word puzzles. Stuart had a special love for his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, the former Barbara Marsh, whom he married on July 1, 1944; one daughter, Carol Ann Ford and her husband, Rudolph. of West Pembroke, Bermuda; two sons, Paul Sprague, and his wife, Sheila, of North Adams and Lake Worth, Fla., and Neal Sprague of Newington, Conn.; seven grandchilldren, Peter Sprague and his wife, Shari; Lyndsy Ford; Ashley Burke and her husband, Corey; Ryan Sprague; Dylan Sprague; Matthew Knight; and Jordan Knight. He also leaves one brother, Robert Sprague, and his wife, Kathleen Drury Sprague, of North Adams, and many nieces and nephews.

A daughter-in-law, Angela Sprague, is deceased, and four brothers and two sisters are deceased including Marilyn Sprague, Gail Pirnie, Ronald, Bertrand, Milton, and Lafayette Sprague Jr.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Stuart Sprague will be celebrated Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
