Sybil Williams

1916 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS Sybil (Burnett) Williams, 96, passed away peacefully at the Mayo Nursing Home in Northfield, VT., on Sunday, March 31, 2013. Sybil will be sadly missed by her family and friends who knew her well.

Sybil was born April 19, 1916 in Savoy, to Melvin and Alice (Sandford) Burnett. She was brought up in Savoy, attended Savoy grammar school and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1934. She proudly furthered her education by attending Bliss Business College in North Adams in 1935.

As a result, she was offered and accepted a position at the North Adams Savings Bank where she worked until 1940.

She married Harold Williams of Savoy on Aug. 19, 1939. She was the mother of three children, Judy McCarroll and her husband Ralph of Frisco, Colo., Robert Williams and his wife, Glenda McKinnon, of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Marilyn Williams and her husband, Ron Kovanic of Randolph, Vt. She was a mother devoted to her children, providing love and guidance but careful not to interfere yet always there when needed. To that same degree she was an excellent grandmother to her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She resided with her family in the Drury section of Florida, Mass., for over 60 years. Once her children were of school age she reentered the workforce as Administrative Secretary for the North Berkshire School Union Superintendent's Office and served in that position until 1976.

She was also very active in the Florida Baptist Church and served as the organ player for over 40 years. Her additional interests included gardening, cooking, music, travel, snowmobiling and photography and, at the youthful age of 68, began a two decade passion of quilting. Her quilts and wall hangings grace the homes of many proud family members and friends.

Sybil was predeceased by her husband and by her sister, Barbara Burnett.

Besides her children, she is survived by grandsons Keith McCarroll, Joel McCarroll, Ryan Williams and Dana Williams and granddaughter, Rebecca Williams, and great-grandchildren, Theo, Quinn, Ryan, Shawn, Hudson, Danica Brodie and Bentley.

The family would like to thank the management and staff of both the Windover House of Randolph, Vt., and the Mayo Healthcare of Northfield, Vt., for the excellent care Sybil received during the time that she spent in those locations.

The family is comforted knowing that Sybil, while in her last years gracefully endured an ever advancing condition of Alzheimer's disease, can now rest in peace. She will be missed.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Cremation has taken place. A funeral service at the Florida Baptist Church and family burial at Bellevue Cemetery will take place at a later date.

The family requests that donations in her memory may be made to either the Florida Baptist Church to Mrs. Holly Sumner, Treasurer, Florida Baptist Church, 4 Savoy Road, Florida, MA 01247, or the at , Vermont Chapter, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090
