Valerie Walsh Gill

1932-2013 Valerie Walsh Gill, 81, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away on August 7th in West Roxbury, MA after a long illness.

She was born on July 29, 1932 in Pittsfield, to the late Dorothy (Hall) Walsh and Daniel Walsh. Valerie grew up, and spent much of her adult life, in Pittsfield. She graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in 1950 and from The College of Our Lady of the Elms in 1954. After graduating from The Elms, Valerie was an Elementary School teacher in West Hartford, CT as well as in Canada.

Upon her return to Pittsfield, she was a social worker for many years at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC). Valerie's love of children was also on display with her volunteer work at the Christian Center, as a CCD teacher at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield and as the President of the Board of Berkshire County Head Start. Later in her career, Valerie was employed at Elder Services of Berkshire County.

Valerie greatly enjoyed traveling and was an enthusiastic skier and swimmer in her earlier years. In addition to her love of children and helping those in need, Valerie was an avid reader and liked spending time in her yard and gardens.

Valerie is survived by her daughter, Alexandra G. Brazeau and son-in-law, Daniel J. Brazeau, of Scituate, MA. She also leaves behind her two grandchildren, Christopher Brazeau and Collin Brazeau.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Valerie Walsh Gill passed away on August 7, 2013 in West Roxbury, MA after a long illness. Calling hours will be Monday, August 12, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
