Veronica B. Avalle

1931-2014 Veronica B. Avalle died at Sugar Hill Senior Living Community on April 1, 2014, surrounded by family. She was born on July 22, 1931 in Pittsfield to Maciej and Mary Kendrick Butrymowicz. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at St. Joseph High School in 1949 and entered the College of Our Lady of the Elms, graduating Cum Laude in 1953. She was elected to the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma, a national scholastic honor society. Veronica began her career as a teacher at Bartlett School and elected to continue her education and earned her Master's degree in Education from North Adams State College in 1958. She was married to Robert Avalle of Pittsfield on September 14th 1957 in St. Joseph's Church and has three children, Robert Jr. of Williamsburg, VA, Maureen O'Neill (Daniel) of Fairport, NY, and Diane Werth (Alexander) of Farmville, VA, and five grandchildren Meaghan, Brenna Rose, and Terrence O'Neill and Colin and Gwendolyn Werth. She is survived by a sister, Theresa Kickery of Pittsfield and a brother, Thomas Burns of Plymouth. She was predeceased by brothers Edmund and Daniel Butrymowicz and sister Isabella Giusti. Veronica attended St. Francis Catholic Church for most of her life and returned to teaching at West Side (Conte) Community School in 1986. The family sends special thanks to all the caring people at Sugar Hill who have taken such good care of her over the past four years. We are forever grateful to Candace Lyon, her loving caregiver in her final years. She lived a long, honorable, and meaningful life of caring and commitment beginning with caring for her siblings as the eldest girl in a family of eight. Veronica loved and was loved by all children, especially her own grandchildren. Music and dancing were always part of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing the piano. In retirement she enjoyed wintering in Melbourne, Florida where she had many friends. Veronica was a beautiful, brilliant, selfless, loving, modest and dignified woman who made all of us better for knowing her. We love you Bachie. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Veronica B. Avalle will be Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:30 from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Veronica's name to the or the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
