Virginia Dwyer died peacefully at her daughter's home in Manhattan on August 20, 2012 at the age of 92. She had homes in West Stockbridge and Tyringham. Ms. Dwyer, a radio, stage and television actress, was perhaps best known for her work on daytime television. She starred in "Guiding Light," "Secret Storm," "As The World Turns" and "Young Doctor Malone." For more than a decade, Ms. Dwyer played the role of Mary Matthews on "Another World." Virginia Dwyer was born in Omaha Neb.; she attended the University of Nebraska and UCLA. In 1941, Ms. Dwyer married Emmy-award winning television producer James Fleming. She was later married to television director Walter Gorman.

Ms. Dwyer cared deeply about her stepsons, the late Paul Gorman as well as Walter, Kevin and Brian Gorman who survive her. She was also close to Mr. Fleming's children from his second marriageAnn Fleming Brown, Jeff and Tom Fleming. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Fleming Moran; grandson Conor Moran; sister Jenny Lou Brink, and many nieces and nephews. Virginia also leaves a number of devoted friends. Her last husband, the journalist Osgood Caruthers, predeceased her.

A memorial is planned at the Tyringham Union Church on October 13th at 10 a.m.
