Virginia Oakley Hamilton 2019-2012 LEE Virginia Oakley Hamilton, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on April 17, 2012. She was born on October 22, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio to Mary and Stephen Oakley. As well as being a mother of four and a homemaker. Virginia was employed in many positions over her life. In her early years she assisted her brothers in the start-up of their dry cleaning business. She was an administrative assistant to the school superintendent in Missouri and also assisted husband Paul in his business. She and the family moved several times to follow Paul's employment transfers. She and Paul retired to Florida where they had many happy years together. Virginia moved to Lee six years ago and resided with her daughter Patty. Virginia was a very bright woman who kept up on current events and had a passion for reading. She was quite organized and meticulously maintained her personal finances until near the end. She was always gracious with others and was grateful for the care she received. Throughout her illness she remained pleasant and positive with everyone and took pleasure in her great grandchildren's visits. The family's nickname for Virginia was the "energizer bunny" due to her desire and ability to bounce back from illness. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Paul Henry Hamilton, son, Stephen Michael Hamilton, and three brothers, Charles, Paul and Robert. Virginia is survived by two daughters, Maryanne Kern (husband, Bill) of Michigan, Patty Jongkind of Lee, and son Paul Hamilton of Missouri. She leaves five grandchildren, Lisa Crampton (husband, Jake) of Illinois, Christopher Costello of Pennsylvania, Angela Hamilton of Missouri, Ian Hamilton (wife, Amy) of Missouri, Emily Mertinooke (husband, Tim) of Lee and Elizabeth Hamilton of Missouri., as well as her six great-grandchildren, DC, Charlie and Harry Crampton, Samantha Hamilton, Elijah and Zoe Mertinooke. She also leaves her brother Herb Oakley and his son Mark, her former daughter-in-law, Lisa Hamilton, and her sister-in-law, Sue Hamilton. Hospice of the Berkshires provided the gentle and loving assistance to Virginia that allowed her to remain at home where she wished to be. The family has deep gratitude for the special care Margaret, Audrey, Erica and Victoria provided Virginia as well as the wonderful support given to the family caregivers. A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
