PITTSFIELD - Virginia Monica "Cioci Wladz" Koldys, 97, of Harryel Street, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Mount Greylock Extended Care.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 29, 1916, a daughter of Alexander and Teofila Kulis Koldys, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Miss Koldys as employed by General Electric Company where she was an inspector in the Tool Room of the Ordnance Systems Department. She retired in 1980 with 43 years service.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and had been a communicant of Holy Family Church.
Miss Koldys was a member of the Polish Community Club and served as Past President of its Auxiliary. She was also a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs and a member of the Quality Time Club.
She enjoyed polka dancing, playing bingo and going to the casino. She was a Red Sox fan.
Miss Koldys is survived by two sisters, Cecelia K. Rainka of Pittsfield, and Susan J. Hospod of Pittsfield; three nieces, Katherine A. Koldys, Christine Spiewak and her husband, Leonard, and Patricia S. Geller and her husband, Robert; four nephews, Alexander Koldys, Raymond J. Koldys, Francis S. Koldys, and Stanley A. Rainka and his wife, Susan; several great- and great- great-nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Rita S. Koldys of Pittsfield.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond J. Koldys and Francis E. Koldys; by two brothers-in-law, Henry F. Rainka and Edmund J. Hospod, and by a sister-in-law, Jean Koldys.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care for the kind and compassionate care given to Virginia and to her family, as well.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Virginia M. Koldys will be held Thursday, July 10, at 9:45 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 to 9:45 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
