Walter Edward Ely

1936-2014 Walter Edward Ely passed away at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y. early Friday morning after a long battle with lung cancer. Walter was the third of five children and second son born to George A. and Phyllis C. Ely, June 30, 1936, in Bennington, Vt. He is survived by his daughter, Inge Tennant Crause and her husband, Justin, of Edmonton, Alberta; two grandsons, Ross and his wife, Sara, and Randal Tennant of Prince George, Va.; his great-granddaughters, Arawyn and Campbell Tennant; a sister-in-law, Roswitha Anderson of Prince George, Va.; his second wife, Jo Ann of Potter Hill, N.Y.; sister, Mary Hagadorn; brother, William and his wife, Ida, of Hoosick, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra; Ursula, his wife of 50 years; brothers, Charles and George; and nephew, George W. Ely. Walter was a retired U.S. Army Veteran whose awards included the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal. A memorial service in his honor will be held at The First Baptist Church in Hoosick, N.Y. at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24. Intrerment and a smiple graveside service will be held at Appomattox Cemetery in Hopewell, Va., where Walt will be laid to rest beside Ursula and Sandra, at a date and time to be anounced later. ,
