Warren Winters Sr.

1925 - 2014 HANCOCK Warren W. Winters Sr., 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Dover, Mass., on Aug. 3, 1925, he is the son of the late Rollin W. and Sadie M. Barnes Winters. At the age of 18, Mr. Winters moved to Pownal, Vt., where he met his wife, and later purchased a farm with his father, in Hancock, and had lived in the valley since the mid 1940's. He was self-employed as a contractor from 1956 to 1975. He and his wife owned the Fales Motel in Hancock from 1965 to 1973. From 1975 to 1990, he was employed by Waverly Fabrics in Adams, as the supervisor of maintenance. Mr. Winters held various positions with the Town of Hancock, most recently, being the chairman of the Cemetery Committee until 2013. He was a member and a deacon of the Hancock Baptist Church for many years, and most recently, attended the Blackington Union Church in North Adams. He is the beloved husband, for 66 years, of Patricia M. Watts Winters; devoted father to Linda (Mark) Beverly, of Advance, N.C., Priscilla (Chuck) Eggerth, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Warren W. (Carol) Winters Jr., of Southwick, Lydia (Don) Cassavaugh and Samuel (Tammy) Winters, both of Hancock; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren (with 3 more on the way) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all his siblings. FUNERAL NOTICE: A private graveside service will be held for the family at the Hancock Cemetery. A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Kemp and held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hancock Baptist Church.
