Willard W. Martindale

1931 - 2016 PERU- MA- Willard Wesley Martindale "Wes", of Peru, Massachusetts passed from this life at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center on Saturday, June 11, 2016. He was born on January 20, 1931, at the House of Mercy Hospital in Pittsfield, the second of eight children born to Charles Merrill Martindale and Mary Mahala Rice. A graduate of Dalton High School, he joined the Navy in 1950 and worked as a diesel mechanic. He married Cora Elizabeth Rowe at Pilgrim Memorial in Pittsfield May 23, 1953 and soon after was stationed in Naples, Italy, during the Korean conflict. After discharge he worked as a machinist for Pratt and Whitney. While working full time, he went to college at age 29, for tool design and in 1966 began work for G.E. Transformer in Pittsfield as a manufacturing engineer then at G.E. Naval Ordinance until his retirement in 1994. Wes was an avid outdoorsman and lived to be out in the woods or tinkering with his logging equipment. He was hard working and creative, loved to take photographs, and loved to design, redesign and repair machinery. He loved his family, was a devout Christian and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Easthampton, MA. He is predeceased by his wife Cora, his brother George of FL, and sisters Alice of CA and Mary of OK. He is survived by four siblings: Charles of NY, Ruth of TN, Joseph of CA and May of WA. He is also survived by his sons David of Dalton, Peter and his wife Susan of Worthington, Paul and his wife Jeannie of Holyoke, grandchildren Levi, Emily, Rachel, Colin, Calvin and great-daughter Genesis. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visitation will be held at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd, Northampton, MA on Sunday, June, 19th from 1- 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 413 Main St, Easthampton, MA on Monday, June 20. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. at North Cemetery in Peru, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fisher House Foundation.
