1937 - 2015 PITTSFIELD William R. Broyles, 77, of Cape Canaveral, FL, died Monday, April 6, 2015. Born in Pittsfield on April 20, 1937, the son of Edgar W. Broyles and Josephine M. Andreotta Broyles he attended St. Charles Grammar School and St. Joseph High School in Pittsfield, graduating in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years before attending colleges in Corvallis, OR and Cambridge, MA. Following graduation he was employed by Bell Telephone Labs in Andover, MA and Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, MA as an Electrical Engineer. In 1974 he joined General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. He later transferred to the GE Corporate Research and Development Center in Niskayuna, NY, retiring from there in 1998. In addition to his career as an Electrical Engineer, Mr. Broyles and his then wife, Doreen M. Broyles, owned and operated Broyles Arena, a family roller skating business started by his mother in 1952. They operated the business from 1968 until its sale in 1987. He is survived by a son, Daniel L. Broyles of Fredericksburg, VA; two daughters, Cynthia L. DiSanza of Sumerduck, VA and Christine L. Zepka of Woodbridge, VA; two brothers, Richard F. Broyles of Fort Mill, SC, and J. Bruce Broyles of Chicopee, MA; two grandsons and one granddaughter. He is predeceased by his longtime companion, Veronica R. Richardson of Albany, NY. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for William R. Broyles will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, 222 Pecks Rd, in Pittsfield MA on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church officiating. A calling hour will be held at Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St. in Pittsfield from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the cemetery service.
