William H. Horn

William Howard Horn passed away at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on August 3rd, 2016, with family members in attendance, following complications from a fall. He was 98.Born in North Adams, Massachusetts, he attended Drury High School. As a young man, he worked driving cabs for the family taxi business. After graduating from Northfield Mount Hermon School, he studied at Purdue University where he also played saxophone in the marching band. Following graduation from Harvard Dental School in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in France with the 167th General Hospital in Cherbourg and also on U. S. Army Hospital Train No. 5 until WWII ended in 1945. Upon his return to North Adams, he set up a dental practice at 99 Church Street. He married Virginia Jordan on February 14th,1948. In 1970, the couple purchased Rand Pond Campground in Goshen, New Hampshire, which they managed together for more than 20 years. In addition to camping, Bill enjoyed woodturning and participating in meets of the Central New Hampshire Corvair Association. He was predeceased by Ginny, his beloved wife of 64 years, and cherished daughter, Susan. He leaves behind his children, Howard Horn of Hyde Park, NY, Carolyn Horn of Laconia, NH, Marilyn Horn of Holliston, Massachusetts, and Jacquelyn Horn Sandstrom, of Sanbornton, NH. as well as five grandsons and two great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of William H. Horn to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via www.jimmyfund.org/gift. An interment service will be held in North Adams, Massachusetts, on October 10th.
