William J. Keyes

1927 - 2016 PITTSFIELD Mr. William J. Keyes, age 89, of 50 Dodge Ave. died Monday morning, Jan. 18th at the Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in Pittsfield, Jan. 4, 1927, the son of the late William and Ethel Bissell Keyes. He was educated in the local schools and attended Pittsfield High School. Employed initially at the former Liggetts' Pharmacy, he drove bus for the BRTA until his retirement in 1992. Additionally, he followed the career path of his Dad, and served as a projectionist for several local area theatres for over 50 years. A Communicant of Sacred Heart Church he was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving aboard the USS Terror, a mine layer in the Pacific. Mr. Keyes was also the steward for the projectionist' union. His wife, Patricia A. Keyes, with whom she had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past Aug. 10th, died this past January 11th. He is survived by his four sons, William G. Keyes, James F. Keyes and Edward M. Keyes, and his wife, Lynn, all of Pittsfield and Daniel G. Keyes and his wife, Rebecca, of Cheshire, her six grandchildren, Kayla, Josh, Brittany, Liam, Logan and Olivia Keyes, his sister, Jane Main and her husband, Allen, and sister-in-law, Barbara Keyes. He was pre-deceased by his twin brother, John Keyes, his other brother, Eugene Keyes and his sister, Shirley Grandbois. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Keyes, William J. age 89, died Jan. 18th. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be SUNDAY from 2 to 4p.m. Funeral services will be held MONDAY morning at 10:15a.m. from the funeral home followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Peter Naranjo, parochial vicar, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
