William Henry Kudlate

1926 - 2015 PITTSFIELD William (Bill) Henry Kudlate, 89, a resident of Taubert Ave., passed away at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Nursing Facility on Sunday evening, November 8, 2015. William was born in Pittsfield, on January 12, 1926. He was the son of Henry Kudlate and the former Irene Peaslee. Enlisting at the age of 17, he served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific campaign during WWII. Bill was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member and chaplain for the Pittsfield Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Bill worked at General Electric Ordnance Division for over 40 years and served on the General Electric Pensioners' Board. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield. Bill was well known for his kind heart, keen sense of humor and beautiful tenor singing voice. He is well remembered for the many appearances he made singing at community and veterans events, directing and participating in local variety and minstrel shows and his love of baking homemade bread. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, the former Phyllis Sharkey, his brother, Frank J. Kudlate and sister, Elizabeth Intelisano, daughters, Sharon Helstowski and Michelle Tirrell, sons, Wayne Kudlate and Christopher Kudlate, sons-in-law, Stephen Helstowski, Jr. and William Tirrell, daughter-in-law, Elaine (Salvucci) Kudlate; grandchildren, Teresa Perkins, Stephen Helstowski, Paul Helstowski, Tammy Bard, Jacqueline Adriani, Stephanie Kudlate, Mark Kudlate, and Michelle Kudlate and 10 great-grandchildren. Bill was previously deceased by his parents, Henry Kudlate and the former Irene Peaslee, son, William Kudlate Jr, brother, Robert Kudlate, and sisters, Irene Simeone and Henrietta Walsh. FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Devanny - Condron Funeral Home from 4 to 7p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 13 at 10a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, North Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA at 2p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's honor may be made to: USMC Toys for Tots, in care of the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility and HospiceCare Berkshire County for their wonderful care of Bill.
