William J. Maroney Jr.

1931-2013 William J. Maroney Jr. 81, of Stockbridge Rd in Lee, passed away Friday at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield surrounded by his loving family

He was born in Springfield on November 17, 1931, the son of William J. Maroney Sr. and Margaret Reilly Maroney.

Bill played baseball and hockey at Springfield Technical High School and graduated in 1951. He joined the Army and achieved the rank of corporal, while serving in Germany during the Korean War. Bill was always supportive of the military as he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.

After the service he attended Western New England College, graduating in 1964. He was a coach for the Holy Family Parish baseball teams in the West Springfield Park and Recreation League. e He He worked for Western Mass Electric from 1955 until retiring in 1990 as Manager of Sales for the Pittsfield office.

After moving to the Berkshires, he served on numerous committees and boards for the Town of Lee, including serving as a Selectman.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church; where he was a Eucharist Minister, President of its Parish Council, Chairman of its Building Committee, teacher in the CCD program, founding member of Friday Night Bingo, and member of the Berkshire Hills Council #314, K. of C

He was also a member of the Tri-Town Rotary Club, and a member of the Greenock Country Club, playing in the Wednesday Morning League, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians

Bill Leaves his wife the former Norma E. Heon, whom he married April 30, 1955, four sons William J. Maroney III, and his wife Deborah of Lee, Kevin N. Maroney, and his wife Loraine of Lee, Martin E. Maroney, and his wife Tess of Carthage, N.Y., Michael L. Maroney, his wife Shelli, of Lee, two daughters Kathleen E. Maroney of Pittsfield, Theresa M. Hartman, her husband, Gene of Lee, he also leaves thirteen grandchildren, Kate, Kearston, Kevin Jr., Sara, Lori, Timothy, Jeanette, Marilyn, Marytess, Sharon, Michael , Lauren and Joshua, three Great Grandchildren Natalie, Jordyn, and Cody. Three nieces Anne Driscoll, Christine Boisse, and Lori Heon. He was predeceased by his grandson Roger W. Wilson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 August 14, from the Kelly Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church , burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home will be Tuesday, August 13th from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Berkshire Children & Family or to St. Mary's School in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street.
