William C. Simms

1930-2016 William C. Simms, 85, of Silver Leaf Drive in Becket, died Monday at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Baltimore, MD on November 18, 1930, the son of Arthur and Eleanor Elliott Simms and was educated in the schools there. He worked as a train engineer for the Penn Railroad until entering the service in 1951 with the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. After the service he returned to the railroad working for Conrail and later Amtrak from which he retired, in 1992. Mr. Simms has made his home in Becket since 2008 where he was a member of the Federated Church. Besides his wife, the former Jeannette Wilhelm, whom he married in 1952, he leaves his daughter Cynthia J. Chevett and her husband Mark, with whom he made his home; two sons: David E. Simms and his wife, Sharon, of Westminster, MD and Scott N. Simms and his wife, Novella, of Westminster, MD; two sisters: Mary Catherine Lewis of Maryland and Doris Clifton of Florida; five grandchildren: David Randolph, William Edward, Erik Joseph, Jonathon David and Emily; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa. In addition he also leaves three step-grandchildren: Douglas, Michael and Jason Cutsail; four step great-grandchildren: Alexander, Erin Grace, Michael and Genivieve; and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: The Funeral will be held Saturday, March 19th at10:00a.m. at the Becket Federated Church with the Rev. Kevin C. Smail, officiating. Burial will follow in the North Becket Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be Friday, March 18th, from 4-7p.m. Those wishing may make donations to the in care of the funeral home at 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238.
