William Paul Wendell

1948 - 2015 PITTSFIELD William Paul Wendell, 67, of 304 Pecks Road, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Hillcrest Commons. Born on January 10, 1948 in Pittsfield a son of Rene Wendell and the late Mary Bernice Gleason Wendell. He attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1965 graduate of Pittsfield High School. William was a US Army Vietnam Veteran serving from 1967 until being honorably discharged in 1970. He was a self-employed contractor for many years retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Pittsfield Sportsman Club, the NRA and the Onota Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He leaves his father, Rene Wendell of Pittsfield. two brothers, Alfred Wendell and his wife, Wendy of Pittsfield and Rene Wendell, Jr. of Sheffield, a sister, Corinne Mays and her husband, Paul of Pittsfield, his aunt, Claire Dunshee of Vermont. Many nieces, nephews and cousins including, Carol Martin of Pittsfield and his good friend and caregiver, Gloria Gennari of Pittsfield. He also leaves his cherished friend, his dog, STINKY. William was predeceased by a sister, Marie Wendell, a stepsister, Ann Martinelli, a niece, Kathleen Martinelli and his stepmother, Agnes Soutier Wendell. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 8:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will full military honors will follow at the family plot at Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the both in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
