Wilma M. Laitala

1926 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Wilma M. Laitala, 86, of 95 Ridgeway Ave., a longtime Pittsfield resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born on May 23, 1926, in Arvida province of Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of Wilho and Fannie Majanen Lehtonen. She attended schools in Arvida, Canada, and also took courses in Montreal. She had been a secretary for several years at Impress Printing and retired, doing secretarial work out of her home for private individuals. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing the piano, cards, but most importantly conversation and laughter.

She is survived by her husband, Alpo Kosti Laitala, whom she married on June 21, 1952, at St. Michaels Evangelical Finnish Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Carol Laitala of Jasper, Ga.; two grandchildren, Chandra Hand and Kasey-Lee Maggs, both of Woodstock, Ga., also two great-grandchildren, Kyle Hand and Cameron Cunningham.

She was predeceased by her twin brother James Lehtonen, and by her sister, Nellie McMillian.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Wilma Mary Laitala will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private.

Donations in memory of Mary may be made to her family to help defray funeral expenses in care of the funeral home.
