Dr. Wynn A. Sayman

1926 - 2015 RICHMOND Dr. Wynn A. Sayman, 89, of Rossiter Rd., passed away Monday, October 12th at Berkshire Medical Center, peacefully with his family at his side. He was born May 8, 1926 in Alexandria, LA to Thomas M. and Lorraine Guy Sayman. He graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA. He attended Toulane University in New Orleans for one year and on his 17th birthday enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin, and he completed his medical degree at the University of Chicago and at Children's Hospital in Boston. He was the Chief Resident of surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital and served as an assistant professor of surgery. Following the end of the Algerian War for Independence, Dr. Sayman traveled with a group from Care Medico to establish and operate a hospital surgical unit. From 1965 to 1980 he practiced as a general surgeon and was the former chief of Surgery at Berkshire Medical Center. Upon his retirement from 1980 until 2001 he and Elizabeth operated Wynn A. Sayman Antiques, which specialized in 18th Century English Ceramics, a mail order and website based business and attended many major antiques shows. Dr. Sayman's professional affiliations include the American College of Surgery, Chicago Surgery Society, American Society of Surgeons and the Berkshire Medical Society. His interests included but were not limited to traveling to antique shows and collecting 18th century English ceramics. He was an avid gardener & flower arranger and enjoyed creating needlepoint coasters and designing ornamental Christmas balls. He was a former board member of the Berkshire Botanical Garden, as well as a vice-president of the board of The Lenox Club and sat on the board of the American Ceramics Circle. With his wife he enjoyed traveling to Europe. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Elizabeth Ford whom he married May 2, 1964, daughter, Lisa Butler Quetti and her husband, John of Marco Island, FL, and grand-daughters, Elizabeth A. Butler, Beatrice K. Butler and Margaret K. Butler and their father, Thomas Butler. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for Dr. Wynn A. Sayman will be held in the spring of 2016.
