Peter J. Watroba

1955 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Peter J. Watroba, 58, of 30 Alfred Drive, passed away Saturday evening at the Berkshire Medical Center after being stricken, suddenly, at his home. He was born in Pittsfield on Oct. 19, 1955, the son of Mrs. Ann P. Kelly Watroba and the late Stanley E. Watroba. He attended the former North Junior High School and was a 1973 graduate of Taconic High School. Mr. Watroba was employed for 34 years at GLV in Lenox, where he was serving as the director of maintenance at the time of his death. A communicant of the former Holy Family Church, Mr. Watroba was known to be "short on words" but generous of spirit. His family and friends will remember his helping hands whether on home remodeling projects, repairing car ills of all sorts, or upgrading to the newest operating system on his beloved Mac's. An avid Ebay enthusiast, he used the Internet as a way of celebrating history, collecting countless World War II memorabilia from signatures, souvenirs, military insignias and documents. His authentic paratrooper corps uniform, which he assembled with pieces from this continent as well as different European countries, was his pride and joy and was known to stand out amongst thousands annually at some of the largest W.W. II re-enactments and air shows from Massachusetts to his beloved Reading, Pa. Large family celebrations for every holiday turned into large family vacations yearly on the outer Cape, along with several vacations to the tropics with his closest friends. He and his wife of nearly 35 years, the former Patricia M. Hamling, were married May 19, 1978. Besides his wife and his mother, he is survived by his son, Nicholas J. Watroba of Pittsfield; his daughter, Jaclyn M. Ricci, and her husband, Nicholas A. Ricci, both of Pittsfield, and his six month-old, grandson, Mason S. Ricci. FUNERAL NOTICE: Watroba, Peter J., age 58, of Pittsfield. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of his Life will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Peter's avocation of "honoring those of the Greatest Generation who defended our freedom," memorial donations may be made to Soldier On in care of the funeral home.
