Rose Elizabeth Rogge Girardi
1922-2014 Mrs. Rose Elizabeth Rogge Girardi, 91 of 281 Walnut St. North Adams, MA died Thursday February 20, 2014 at Williamstown Commons. She was born in North Adams, MA on March 26, 1922 daughter of Luigi and Elizabeth (Rosati) Irace (Rogge). She attended local schools including the Brayton Middle School where she was the leading lady opposite Gordon West in an opera production that they sang and danced. She was a thespian there and at the Drury High School where she graduated from in 1939. Rose graduated from the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Rose was employed as a registered nurse at North Adams Regional Hospital in its Maternity Ward until 1951. At that time, Rose became a homemaker and dedicated her life to raising her family. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters and their families. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and was an active volunteer at its annual bazaar. She also volunteered at many of her children's school activities and was a chaperone for the Drury Band. Rose was a member of the Sons of Italy. She was also a member of the St. Luke's Alumni Association and stayed in touch with her classmates for her entire life. Rose enjoyed word puzzles and games, and she was an avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan. Survivors include her husband, William M. "Shep" Girardi, whom she married on October 15, 1949 in St. Anthony of Padua Church. One daughter; Kathleen Ascher of Bennington, VT., three sons; John L. "Jack" Girardi of Readsboro, VT; William M. Girardi Jr. of Sunderland, MA; and Robert Girardi of Arden, NC. She also leaves nine grandchildren; two great granddaughters; one brother, John Rogge of Newcastle, PA; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two brothers and six sisters including Austin Rogge, Henry Irace, Angelina Laino, Josephine Scalise, Philomena Richardello, Constance Briola, Mary Maselli, and Frances Louison. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Rose Girardi will be Monday February 24, 2014 at 8:15 AM from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 2-5 PM.
