Jake Bona

1962-2014 GREAT BARRINGTON Jake Bona, 53, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2014. Born in Pittsfield, on August 20, 1962 he was the son of Daniel Bona and the late Marilyn Bona Barriere. Jake was educated in local schools and graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School. Besides his father, Daniel, of Lee, Jake is survived by his daughter, his princess, Maggie Bona and his wife and high school sweetheart, Melissa House Bona, of Great Barrington; his uncle, William C. Bona, of Lenox; his stepfather, Bernard Barriere, Jr., of North Bennington, Vt.; his three siblings, Daniel J. (DJ) Bona, Jr. and his wife Terri Hazelton of Otis, Elizabeth Bona Barnhill and her husband, Jake Barnhill, of Petersburg, N.Y. and Bernard B. Barriere, III and his wife, Mary Barriere, of North Bennington, Vt.; as well as a large and loving extended family that he loved dearly. He had a spirit that touched many in the community and was loved by all. He had an infectious passion for life and found joy in everything he did. His love for his professional craft and a 30 year tradition of excellence will be continued in the work that he shared with his brother DJ. Above all else Jake cherished spending time with his family. He spent time hunting and fishing with his brothers, shopping with his sister, cooking and eating the best food and doing everything with his beloved daughter, Maggie. FUNERAL NOTICE: The family of the late John M. Bona will receive friends on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington with a brief service of remembrance being held at 3:30 p.m. A reception will follow at 5 p.m. at Risingdale Cafe in Housatonic. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jake Bona Memorial Fund through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
