1923 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Helen M. Spence Virgilio, 90, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Hillcrest Commons, in the presence of her loving family. She was born in Worcester, on Aug. 7, 1923, daughter of the late William and Ann Stearns Spence. She attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from St. Joseph High School. She graduated from the LeBarron Hair Dressing Academy in Pittsfield, and worked for four years at Dot and Jans Beauty Salon in Lenox, as a hair stylist. She then worked at Joseph on the Mall in Pittsfield, as a receptionist, for several years. She had been a member of the former All Soul's Church and the All Soul's Church choir and ladies society. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling, reading and cross word puzzles. She was the widow of John L. Virgilio Sr., who died on April 11, 1977. They were married on Jan. 10, 1942. Survivors include three sons, Ronald J. Virgilio and his wife, Donna, of Pittsfield and The Villages, Fla., Gary J. Virgilio and his wife, Anita, of Pittsfield, and John L. Virgilio Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Cheshire; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, James Spence, and three sisters, Elizabeth Fabino, Nancy Foisty and Madeline Nadeau. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, March 14, 2014, at 8 a.m., from the FLYNN AND DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, Mass. 01201, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker C.S.S., officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
