Willie W. Haywood Jr.
1956 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Willie W. Haywood Jr., 57, of Pittsfield, passed away April 19, 2014, after a short illness, surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 9, 1956, in Pittsfield, he was the son of Willie Sr. and Alma Persip Haywood. Willie attended local schools, graduating from Taconic High School in 1974. Willie joined the Coast Guard in 1974. He worked at Polymatrix, where he became the employee of the year. He then worked at the Super 8 Motel in Lee, where he was the assistant manager, desk clerk, and housekeeper, where he made the first place bed-making competition. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, and volleyball. Willie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield and was very much known as a people person. He is survived by his niece, Ginger Henault and her four children, Celeste, Brittany, Aubrey, and Darrin, whom he lived with; a brother, Grant B. Haywood and (Jamie), sisters Edna Johnston (Lloyd), Dollie Jean Haywood and (Jean), all of Pittsfield, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Estella B. Proper. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services for Willie W. Haywood Jr. will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, with Pastor Rev. Sheila Sholes-Ross, officiating. A repast will be held after the service, in the hall. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family.
