Francis M. Haley

1925-2014 PITTSFIELD Francis Michael Haley, 88, of 82 Elmhurst Avenue, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Craneville Place of Dalton, where he had resided since December. Born in Pittsfield on September 24, 1925, the son of Michael R. and Elizabeth V. Butler Haley, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Haley enlisted with the United States Navy on July 13, 1943, served as a Radioman Third Class, and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1946. Mr. Haley was a member of the Teamster's Union for more than 25 years and had worked as a shipping clerk for Old County Trucking in Lee until they closed. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed traveling and camping. He also enjoyed watching football, and was a big fan of the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Mr. Haley's wife, the former Elizabeth L. Cassidy, whom he married May 26, 1951, in Mechanicville, New York, died September 14, 2007. Mr. Haley is survived by a son, James M. Haley, of Pittsfield; two daughters, Maureen Baczek and her husband, Ron, of Pittsfield, and Patricia Sykes and her husband, Everett, of Irvine, California; a brother, Michael Haley and his wife, Joan, of Conway, Mass.; six grandchildren, Michael and Becca Baczek, Jessica Baczek, Jason Baczek, Alex and Shannon Sykes, Lauren Sykes, and Christopher Sykes; as well as his sister-in-law, Rita Haley, of Pittsfield. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Richard Haley and John Haley; a sister, Patricia Suriner; and a grandson, Daniel Haley. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Francis Michael Haley will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
