Lyudmila Fradkina Obituary
Lyudmila Fradkina

1930 - 2014 GREAT BARRINGTON Lyudmila, "Mila" or "Lyuda" to her friends, Fradkina, 83, of Great Barrington, died peacefully Friday, June 20, 2014 at Fairview Commons Nursing Center. She was born in Lvov, Russia, on Aug. 4, 1930, daughter of Col. Zahar Fradkin and Betty Tannenbaum Fradkina. Lyudmila was a brilliant woman, graduating top of her class from University of Leningrad with a degree in philology. She was a professor of Latin and ancient Greek at the University of Leningrad and worked as a book editor for "NAUKA," the publishing house of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She immigrated to New York City in 1980 to seek freedom and opportunity for herself and her daughter. She then worked translating documents for Broad Street Advisers, a maritime law firm, retiring in 1994. Lyudmila had a passion for life, music and travel. She especially loved the ocean, spending as much time as she could at the beach. She made friends wherever she went. She was Jewish by birth, but really appreciated the message of Christianity and attended a Baptist Church in New York, and later the Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Lyudmila leaves a daughter, Roxanne Goble, and her husband Glenn of Great Barrington; two grandchildren, Noah and Kate Goble; a sister, Nelya Karabugaeva, and nieces Lena, Leema and Fariza, of Moscow, Russia. Her family would like to express their deep gratitude to Fairview Commons Nursing Center for their wonderful care, and especially to Hospice Care in the Berkshires for making Lyudmila's last days as peaceful as possible. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for Lyudmila Fradkina will be held on Friday, June 27, at 9:30 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Van Ausdall officiating. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Lyudmila's memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.
