Roland "Butch" Guy

1948 - 2014 WORTHINGTON Roland "Butch" F. Guy, 66, of 697 Old North Road, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on May 31, 1948, the son of Cossette Rivers Guy of Worthington and the late Roland A. Guy, he was educated in Holyoke schools and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. A Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Guy enlisted in the United States Navy on April 22, 1967. He served a three-year tour of duty as an Electrician's Mate Third Class aboard the USS George K. MacKenzie. He was honorably discharged on May 7, 1971, having earned, among other medals, the Vietnam service medal with bronze stars. Mr. Guy was employed as a maintenance mechanic at PCA Packing Corp. of America. He retired in 2008 with 17 years' service. He had also worked for several electrical contractors for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sports. Mr. Guy leaves his wife, the former Sharon A. Parish, whom he married Oc. 26, 1974, in Dalton. Besides his wife and his mother, he is survived by a brother, David Guy and his wife, Judy, of Peru; a sister, Cindy Rodman and her husband, Jim, of Hortense, Ga.; two nephews, David Guy and Wade Guy; and a niece, Heather White; his sister-in-law, Betty Parish, and his dog, Molly. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for Roland "Butch" F. Guy will be held Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at North Cemetery in Worthington. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worthington Fire Department First Responders in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
